Hello and welcome to our second week of Summer School! For those of you who are new to the class, please allow me to introduce myself:
My name is Ms. Ebony. I am the Kindergarten teacher here at HJIS, and I’m
thrilled to be working with your child this summer. I am from New York, USA. I have lived in the United Arab Emirates and in Ghana before moving here to
Japan. My passion is early childhood education and I have been teaching
for 10 years. I love to travel and to learn about different cultures. I am so
delighted to be in Japan and to call both Sendai and Horizon my home for
the past 4+ years.
Our theme this week is Down on the Farm. Throughout the week we will learn about farm life and the many animals who live on the farm. We will explore
our theme through various activities (art, language, math, cooking,
experiments) songs and games.
I look forward to another busy and exciting week ahead!

Welcome to Summer School! - Week 2 - English Immersion & Art Class
Welcome to 2nd week of Horizon International School summer school
My name is Ms. Yesim and I am from Turkey.
I came to Sendai 7 years ago and I have been working in Horizon
for 6.5 years.
It is a pleasure to meet you.
My assistant teacher is Ms. Celine, she is also our preschool assistant teacher here at Horizon. She is very positive and great supportive assistant teacher. Ms. Celine and I are very excited to see your children in our classroom.
We will have interns in summer school from Sendai Ikuei Haigh School. They will
support our activities in classroom.
This week's theme is down on the farm. We will explore farm life and farm animals
with full of fun activities.
We plan to fill our second week with cooking activity, pool time, special art lessons
and various games.
We are looking forward to have safe, fun and enthusiastic second week.

Welcome to Summer School! - Week 2 - English Immersion Basic Class (Primary)
Hello, all, my name Malachi. I come from London but I have lived in Japan for many years, I am new to Sendai but I am very happy to make this charming city my home. Welcome to Primary English Summer School. This week we will be learning about the animals that live on farms.

We are planning to make butter from cream. We are also planning to eat butter with bread from the co-op. We will also have bread and jam for any lactose intolerant students.

Week 1 - Under the sea
We had a terrific first week of our summer school. We had many Horizon students and also we welcomed new members too. Everybody got used to class quickly. We had fun while enjoying Morning Meeting, music and dance activities, group games and swimming time!
サマースクール1週目はすばらしいものとなりました。ホライゾンの在園児と、外部からもお友達が参加しました。皆クラスにすぐ馴染むことが出来ました。朝の会、音楽とダンスの活動、ゲーム、プールタイム…と、様々な活動を思い切り楽しみました！

Take a Peek at Our Week - Basic #1 - W1: Under the Sea
On the first day of school children explored sea animals. They learn the sentence frames “what do you se” and “I see a blank”. The blank is for the ocean animals children were learning about. For example, I would point to pictures of the animals and they children would say “I see an octopus”, “I see a jellyfish”, “I see a shark” and to corresponding animals. They continue to explore sea animals by tracing sea animals and also writing the sentence frame “I see a----"
サマースクール初日の今日は、海の動物について学びました。こどもたちは「What do you see?（何が見えますか？）」と「I see a 〇〇.（〇〇が見えます）」というフレーズを学びました。〇〇の部分には、こどもたちが学んだ海の生き物の名前が入ります。例えば、私が海の動物の絵を指さしたら、こどもたちが「I see an octopus.（タコが見えます）」「I see an jellyfish.（クラゲが見えます）」「I see a shark.（サメが見えます）」といった風に、指さした動物に応じて答えます。こどもたちは海の動物をなぞったり、「I see a -----.」のフレーズを書いたりして、海の動物について学びました。
On Tuesday children listen to the story the rainbow fish and even created their own rainbow fish. Children really enjoyed creating a wonderful magical sea creature out of tinfoil paper and glitter stickers. Especially thought it was interesting when they painted their fish with Q-tips rather than brushes.
火曜日にはレインボーフィッシュのお話を聞いて、自分だけのレインボーフィッシュを製作しました。
アルミとキラキラのシールを使って自分だけの素敵な海の生き物を作り上げることをとても楽しんでいました。特にブラシの代わりに綿棒を使ってペイントをするところは興味津々で取り組んでいました。
On Wednesday children explore the concepts of small medium and big with our song baby shark classroom favorite. During the song we did hand motions small motions for baby shark medium motion for mama shark big motions for daddy shirt. Once they were done they were able to feed the shark family different size fish. Baby shark ate small fish mama shark a medium fish and daddy shark ate Big Fish.
水曜日には「小さい」「中くらい」「大きい」というサイズ感について、サメの赤ちゃんの歌を歌って学びました。歌の中では赤ちゃんサメの小さな動き、お母さんサメの中くらいの動き、お父さんサメの大きな動きをしました。サメの家族みんなの動きをひととおりやってみた後は、サメの家族たちに大きさの違うお魚をあげました。赤ちゃんサメには、小さな魚。お母さんサメには、中くらいの大きさの魚。そしてお父さんサメには大きな魚をあげました。
On Thursday children created their own jellyfish out of tissue paper contact paper and paper tape. Once we were done explored how jellyfish moved by dancing with their jellyfish creations to soft music.
木曜日には自分だけのクラゲを作りました。ティッシュと画用紙、そして紙テープを使いました。そしゆったりとした音楽に合わせて自分で作ったクラゲをゆらゆらと動かして、クラゲがどんな動きをするのかを学びました。
On Friday children traded their own seafood scenery out of yogurt and goldfish and graham crackers. They later munch on popcorn and chips and watch the movie Ponyo with the rest of the students of our school!
金曜日にはヨーグルトとお魚クラッカー、グラハムクラッカーを使って海の中の様子を表現しました。その後の午後の時間には、ポップコーンとチップスを片手に、他のクラスのこどもたちみんなと一緒になって「崖の上のポニョ」を見ました！

Welcome to Summer School! - English Immersion & Sports Class
Dear Parents,
It`s a pleasure for me to teach English and Sports class in summer school. My name is Ayse Akin and I am a second grade homeroom teacher at Horizon. This is my fourth year in teaching. I have worked in different international schools in Tokyo and Ukraine. I worked with both kindergarten kids and the primary kids.
I would like to give you some ideas about our summer school this year. In the first week, we will focus on the theme `Under the Sea`. We will discuss different ocean and sea creatures and revise what we learn by playing different games. The second week`s theme is `Down on the Farm`. So we will have different activities related to farm animals. Other than these we have various hands-on activities that develop language skills and other activities like cooking or craft.
There are two weeks ahead of us with lots of fun activities.
Hope to enjoy it altogether!

Students will learn about under the sea and properties of sea creatures.
In art classes, children will learn animation, clay modeling, batik and use of various painting techniques while practicing at projects. They will both enjoy and prove to be a good artists.
Also, They will enjoy at pool time, cooking activity, team building games, music and dance. They will meet with new friends.
We are looking forward to have safe, fun and enthusiastic summer school.

Welcome to Summer School! - English Immersion Basic Class #1
Dear Parents,
Hello parents! This is Miss. Brittany and welcome to our summer camp! We had our first day of summer school and it was a blast! The children enjoyed learning about animals in the sea through our book, the Rainbow Fish, and singing songs about sharks! This will be a fun week filled with lots of interesting activities that will wow your child!
Just a reminder to parents that we are not having nap time during these two weeks. Children will not need their sleep items. However children will need the following items.

Cup
Toothpaste
Snack
PM snack for children using daycare
Extra cloths
Swimsuit
Towel
For our classroom snack children are creating an ocean scenery with graham crackers. For this the children to will be eating graham crackers, goldfish, blue colored icing, and sprinkles. If you do not wish for your child to eat this then please inform me. We can pick another recipe for your child.
